The following hospital and/or health system job eliminations were announced within the past month. They are listed by the number of employees or positions affected.
1. Boston Children's Cuts 255 Jobs
Boston Children's Hospital cut 255 positions in September to save $89.5 million. The 255 jobs include 45 layoffs, which will not be transferred. The remaining positions will be eliminated through attrition.
2. NCH Healthcare in Florida to Outsource 224 Employees
Naples, Fla.-based NCH Healthcare System outsourced 224 employees from its food service and housekeeping departments, effective Oct. 1.
3. UMass Memorial Medical Center to Cut Another 140 Jobs
Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Medical Center announced plans to cut another 140 full-time positions in late September after trimming 150 positions from its payroll in February.
4. PeaceHealth Trims 120 Jobs from Oregon Operations
Longview, Wash.-based PeaceHealth eliminated at least 120 jobs from its operations in Lane County, Ore., within the past year. The positions were trimmed through early retirement offers, layoffs and relocating jobs to a new "shared services center" in Vancouver, Wash.
5. Northwest Community Healthcare in Illinois to Build 4 Outpatient Centers, Cut 110 Jobs
Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Northwest Community Healthcare announced the development of four new outpatient facilities but the elimination of 110 full- and part-time positions.
6. E.J. Noble Hospital in New York May Lay Off 70 After Health Department Review
E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur, N.Y., could lay off up to 70 employees after it closed its lab and other services following a negative review by the state's health department.
7. HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Cuts About 40 Jobs
Kingston, N.Y.-based HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley laid off roughly 40 employees in early September.
8. KentuckyOne Health to Lay Off 40 Employees at St. Joseph Hospitals
KentuckyOne Health laid off 40 employees at St. Joseph Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington, Ky.
9. Community Memorial Health System in California Lays Off 31 Employees
Community Memorial Health System in Ventura, Calif., announced plans to eliminate 31 jobs.
10. Western Connecticut Health Network Eliminates 28 Jobs
The Western Connecticut Health Network based in Danbury let 28 employees go. The health system said the laid-off jobs are administrative positions at both of its hospitals — Danbury (Conn.) Hospital and New Milford (Conn.) Hospital.
11. Marian Regional Medical Center in California Lays Off 18 CNAs
Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, Calif., laid off 18 certified nursing assistants in mid-September.
12. Inland Hospital in Maine Lays Off 10 Employees
Inland Hospital in Waterville, Maine, laid off 10 of its 600 employees.
13. Lawrence General Hospital in Massachusetts Announces Restructuring
Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital announced a restructuring plan to layoff as many as 15 nurses, including eliminating all nurse educators, close their short stay unit and outsource the hospital's lactation consulting services to the local community health center.
14. Blue Hill Memorial in Maine Offers Buyouts to Lessen Layoffs
Blue Hill (Maine) Memorial Hospital offered a "voluntary separation incentive plan" intended to reduce layoffs at the 323-employee hospital.
