On July 16, U.S. News & World Report announced the 2024-2025 "Best Hospitals" rankings and ratings, which assessed nearly 5,000 hospitals in 35 medical and surgical services.
The latest edition of the rankings, now in its 35th year, highlights 466 "Best Regional Hospitals," ranked in states and major metropolitan areas nationwide.
This year, U.S. News began including Medicare Advantage data in the rankings. Hospitals in 11 adult specialties were examined on their risk-adjusted mortality rates in patients insured by Medicare Advantage plans.
The media company made other changes this year as well, such as excluding patients transferred to a hospital from outside the emergency department from its risk-adjusted outcomes for all specialties.
Additionally, U.S. News, for the first time, recognized 98 "Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access" as part of its latest rankings. These include the 53 hospitals that were recognized in June as part of the initial list for their work to improve care in historically underserved communities.
The following 20 hospitals made the 2024-2025 Best Hospitals Honor Roll, meaning they earned the most points out of the possible total of 543 across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Hospitals that earned at least 280 points are recognized.
