Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital has announced a restructuring plan that includes lay offs and closing services, according to a Massachusetts Nurses Association news release.
Under the plan, the hospital plans to layoff as many as 15 nurses, including eliminating all nurse educators, close their short stay unit and outsource the hospital's lactation consulting services to the local community health center. This announcement closely follows the closure of some intensive care unit beds, raising concerns about proper staffing levels.
The union has filed a class action grievance on behalf of the nurses impacted by these changes.
