Here are 20 recently announced or ongoing hospital construction projects in October.
1. Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky., will begin constructing new surgical suites at its heart center in December as part of a $12.3 million expansion project.
2. Fort Collins, Colo.-based Poudre Valley Health System is planning to use existing space to develop a new cancer center. The center is projected to cost $17.5 million, including $7.1 million that is already invested in a radiation oncology department expansion.
3. Genesis HealthCare System, based in Zanesville, Ohio, unveiled plans for a new patient tower that will be constructed on Bethesda Hospital's campus, also in Zanesville. The new patient tower is part of a larger $125 million facilities enhancement program, which also includes total renovation of Bethesda Hospital.
4. St. Luke's Hospital in Crosby, N.D., is currently undergoing a $7.5 million renovation and construction project that includes a renovated emergency center, newly relocated 50-bed clinic and a new assisted-living wing.
5. MetroHealth, based in Cleveland, Ohio, plans to open a community health center in Middleburgh Heights that will replace the older existing facility in Strongsville. Hospital officials expect to break ground on the project in spring 2012.
6. St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga., broke ground on a $110 million project to erect two four-story towers, which will include the cardiac and women's centers of excellence, a cardiovascular surgical unit and four catheterization labs.
7. Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn., unveiled plans to expand services by building a replacement clinic that would more than double the size of the current clinic and provide more space for current services with room to add others.
