Southwest General Health System in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, plans to spend roughly $128 million over the next four years in various expansion projects, according to a Plain Dealer report.
Construction will be divided into two phases, and the second phase could be delayed if the economy deteriorates, according to the report. The first phase involves the expansion of Southwest's emergency department and the construction of a new critical-care unit and a new patient parking garage. Phase one is scheduled to begin in May 2012 and cost $66 million.
The second phase will include a new patient bed tower with 100 private rooms and a new main entrance to the hospital, the report said. This second phase is projected to begin in late 2012. All construction is expected to be complete by 2015, and the hospital would have a total of 400 beds.
