Summa Barberton Hospital in Ohio Breaks Ground to Expand Emergency Department

Summa Barberton (Ohio) Hospital broke ground for the construction of its new emergency department, according to a hospital release.

Summa Barberton Hospital's ED volume has grown an average of 7.6 percent in each of the last five years. Consequently, the construction of a new, larger ED on the Summa Barberton Hospital campus was approved. The new ED will increase the number of beds from 18 to 32 and triple the square footage of the existing facility. Other new features include a larger waiting area for families, additional parking, a dedicated general radiology unit and dedicated triage space.

Construction will begin immediately and the anticipated completion date of the project is March 2013.
