Denville, N.J.-based Saint Clare's Health System and its Englewood, Colo.-based, non-profit parent Catholic Health Initiatives signed an asset purchase agreement with Ontario, Calif.-based, for-profit Prime Healthcare Services.

Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Cambridge (Mass.) Health Alliance signed a clinical and academic affiliation agreement and also increased the scope of BIDMC's accountable care organization.

Pompton Plains, N.J.-based Chilton Health Network signed a definitive merger agreement with Atlantic Health System, based in Morristown, N.J.

Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health Care System completed a merger with Caldwell Memorial Hospital based in Lenoir, N.C., effective May 1.
7. Steward Sues BCBS of Rhode Island for Allegedly Blocking Hospital Acquisition
Boston-based Steward Health Care System sued Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, claiming the payor blocked Steward's plans to purchase Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I., last fall by failing to negotiate a reasonable contract.
8. HCA Buys Carondelet Health in Missouri From Ascension
For-profit HCA Midwest Health System, a Kansas City, Mo.-based subsidiary of Hospital Corporation of America, announced it will purchase Carondelet Health, a two-hospital system also based in Kansas City. The sale is expected to close by the end of the year.
9. Trinity Health, Catholic Health East Complete Merger
One of the largest mergers in the hospital and health system industry is now complete, as Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health and Newtown Square, Pa.-based Catholic Health East closed their deal to create one of the country's biggest Catholic health systems.

Sierra Vista (Ariz.) Regional Health Center completed a long-term operation lease agreement with Brentwood, Tenn.-based RegionalCare Hospital Partners to operate a new 100-bed regional hospital to be called SVRHC's "East Campus."
11. North Kansas City Concedes to Hospital Sale Law
The newly elected mayor of North Kansas City, Mo., and a majority of the city council members wrote to Gov. Jay Nixon in support of a bill that would require mutual agreement between the hospital, the city and the public before North Kansas City Hospital could be sold.
