Beth Israel Deaconess, Cambridge Health Sign Affiliation Deal

Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Cambridge (Mass.) Health Alliance have signed a clinical and academic affiliation agreement and have also increased the scope of BIDMC's accountable care organization.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Cambridge Health Alliance have signed an affiliation agreement.CHA and BIDMC will both remain independent financially, and each will retain their governance structures. The partnership, first mentioned in October, is centered on CHA and BIDMC integrating care for their patients, sharing information via compatible electronic health record systems and collaborating on academic research and physician teaching.

In addition, starting Jan. 1, 2014, CHA and its physicians will become part of the Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization — the ACO formed by BIDMC and its Harvard-based physician organization in January.

The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission still must approve the affiliation deal. BIDMC is one of Boston's primary academic medical centers. CHA is an integrated health network with three hospital campuses in Cambridge, Somerville and Everett.
