Here are eight hospital operating room construction projects that were recently announced or completed, listed in descending chronological order.
1. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics was approved to execute a five-year capital plan that includes expanding the surgical areas.
2. The Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, N.Y., opened a new operating room in its obstetrical wing. The $500,000 surgical suite will be used for Caesarian sections and includes an alcove where a newborn child can be stabilized.
3. Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Memorial Health Care System opened a new hybrid operating room. The 1,200-square-foot hybrid OR was built in four months as part of a $10 million operating room upgrade.
4. Baton Rouge General Medical Center is planning an expansion project totaling $40 million that includes four new operating rooms.
5. The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, Okla., opened its remodeled surgery suite. The $3.2 million renovation began in May 2010 and includes five operating rooms.
6. Valley Baptist-Brownsville (Texas) completed construction of four new surgery suites. The construction project included renovating four existing operating rooms and building four new surgery suites, a new day surgery unit, preoperative holding rooms and a post-anesthesia care unit.
7. Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Mass., part of Boston-based Caritas Christi Health Care, opened three new operating rooms. The $10.2 million surgical suite project is part of a capital investment program by parent company Steward Health Care, based in Boston.
8. Avera Marshall (Minn.) Medical Center completed its new $4 million surgical unit after more than a year of construction.
