Louisville, Ky.-based UofL Health has started the process of fully opening the new emergency department at its Shepherdsville facility, according to a WAVE3 Oct. 3 report.

Mercy Hospital Springfield (Mo.) is to break ground Oct. 6 on a new emergency department close to its existing rehab facility, according to an Oct. 1 Springfield News-Leader report.

Pittsburgh-based UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation received an $8 million donation, its largest gift to date from an individual.

Bellaire, Texas-based Harris Health System completed a $48.5 million renovation of Ben Taub Hospital's emergency department at the Ginni and Richard Mithoff Trauma Center.  

Florence, S.C.-based McLeod Health received a certificate of need to break ground on a new $56 million hospital at its McLeod Health Carolina Forest Campus.

Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health is drawing up plans for its flagship freestanding children's hospital. 

Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health's certificate of need application to build a $29 million freestanding emergency department has been approved by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic revealed that its new investments in downtown Rochester will add an additional 1.9 million square feet of space to the health system, local news outlet KROC reported Sept. 24.

Baystate Health in Springfield, Mass., set the largest fundraising goal in its history, The Greenfield Recorder reported Sept. 21.

Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai received a $25 million gift from Alfred E. Mann Charities to create a precision medicine innovation center that will work to advance single-cell biology research.
