Alamance Regional Medical Center in NC Proposes $60M Expansion

Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C., has proposed a $60 million expansion to its cancer center, emergency department and surgical areas, according to a Burlington Times-News report.
The proposed project would include a two-story, 40,000-square-foot addition to the cancer center; a 28,000-square-foot expansion to the emergency department; an expanded surgery area; and larger operating rooms. According to the report, the expansion plan focuses on hospital areas currently operating at or beyond capacity.
Alamance Regional has filed a Certificate of Need with the N.C. State Department of Health, which is necessary to ensure the hospital does not add, replace or acquire a new facility that is not necessary in the community. If the expansion is approved, construction is expected to begin next spring, according to the report.

Alamance Regional recently announced an affiliation with Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health. According to the report, the expansion plan developed before the decision to join Cone Health.
