Here are 15 hospital transactions that occurred in the previous week, beginning with the most recent.

1. National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical plan to merge in September to create Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

2. At least one Williamson County (Tenn.) Commissioner is arguing for the sale of Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tenn., to help reduce the county's projected debt of $8-10 million. However, County Attorney Jeff Moseley said that by law the state would need to place any money from the sale in a trust for only healthcare expenses.

3. Auburn (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital is considering a merger or partnership with one of three hospitals in Syracuse, N.Y.: St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, Crouse Hospital and Upstate University Hospital.

4. Two Massachusetts payors, Tufts Health Plan and Cambridge Health Alliance, are in talks to partner. Tufts may take control of CHA's managed care plan, Network Health, to expand its reach into the health insurance market for low-income populations.

5. Boston-based Steward Healthcare offered $1.1 billion for Miami's Jackson Health System.

6. Ocoee, Fla.-based Health Central plans to merge with Orlando (Fla.) Health. Orlando Health offered to invest $120 million in Health Central over five years.

7. Ascension Health in St. Louis formed a joint venture with Menlo Park, Calif.-based Oak Hill Capital Partners to buy Catholic hospitals and health systems.

8. In a "triangular reverse merger," University General Hospital in Houston signed a letter of intent with SeaBridge Freight, a trans-Gulf intermodal transportation company. The deal would make the physician-owned hospital public and the freight company private.

9. New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C., is considering a new relationship with Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System.

10. Texas's Valley Baptist Health System, with locations in Harlingen and Brownsville, will soon merge with Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems.

11. Woonsocket, R.I.'s Landmark Medical Center signed a nonbinding letter of intent from Brentwood, Tenn.'s RegionalCare Hospital Partners.

12. Representatives from Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., met with Jim Brexler, CEO of Chattanooga, Tenn.'s Erlanger Medical Center to discuss a possible merger.

13. Global Health Management, a consulting firm based in Louisiana, offered to assemble a group of private investors to acquire Miami-Dade County's Jackson Health System. The company proposed a private-public partnership.

14. Community Health Systems, which acquired Youngstown, Ohio-based Forum Health in Oct. 2010, announced it will layoff 81 employees at the three-hospital health system.

15. Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., will receive the $62 million in state funds needed to save the hospital through a merger with SUNY Downstate Medical Center, also in Brooklyn.
