National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical plan to merge in September, according to a Gazette.net report.
The merger is a requirement of the 2005 federal Base Realignment and Closure mandate. The joint facility, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, will feature a 245-acre campus, although more than half of the construction will not be finished by September.
