Minneapolis-based insurer Medica has launched a new plan in collaboration with Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services that functions as an accountable care organization.
The plan, called Harmony with Medica and FairviewSM, will be available April 1. Plan members' premium costs will be 10 percent less than the same products currently offered by Medica. The reduced premiums are a direct result of a unique collaboration between Medica and Fairview that began in 2009 and has resulted in lower costs, improved quality of care and a reengineered approach to service that extends across both organizations.
Patients will need to stay within the Fairview system, which includes roughly 350 clinics and seven hospitals. The plan will cover virtual physician appointments and also offer access to care teams by phone.
In December, Fairview was also named one of the 32 Pioneer ACOs by CMS.
