10 Hospitals That Recently Acquired Physician Practices

1. Indianapolis' St. Francis Health Acquires Colon and Rectal Practice
St. Francis Medical Group, part of Indianapolis-based Franciscan St. Francis Health, acquired Kendrick Regional Center for Colon and Rectal Care. The six-surgeon practice will now be known as Kendrick Colon and Rectal Center.

2. Indiana University Health Acquires Dermatology Practice
Indiana University Health Physicians, part of Indianapolis-based IU Health, acquired University Dermatology. The practice, which includes nine physicians, will be renamed IU Health Physicians Dermatology.

3. University of Virginia Medical Center Acquires Private Oncology Practice
University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville will acquire Hematology Oncology Patient Enterprises, also based in Charlottesville. The private oncology practice is expected to help UVMC become a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

4. Cincinnati's Christ Hospital Acquires Family Medicine Practice
Wetherington Family Medicine in West Chester, Ohio, has joined The Christ Hospital Medical Associates, the primary care physician practice owned by The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. The practice includes three physicians.

5. New York's Bon Secourts Integrates Five Physician Practices Into Medical Group
Suffern, N.Y.-based Bon Secours Charity Health System integrated five New York medical practices into its medical group. The practices are: Ramapo Valley Surgical Associates, a four-surgeon practice based in Suffern; Hudson Valley Medical Associates, a six-provider internal medicine practice based in Pomona; Metropolitan Cardiology Consultants, a six-physician practice with three locations in Suffern, Goshen and Ridgewood; George R. Cox, MD, a physician specializing in internal medicine with a practice based in Suffern; and Rockland Pulmonary and Medical Associates, a 14-physician multi-specialty practice based in West Nyack.

6. Georgia's University Hospital Plans to Purchase 30 Physicians by August
University Hospital in Augusta, Ga., announced the designation of $15 million toward practice acquisitions. The 612-bed hospital is planning a "first wave" purchase of 30 physicians specializing in cardiology, hematology/oncology and cardiothoracic surgery and is expecting to complete the acquisitions by August.

7. Kansas Hospitals Acquire Imaging Center and Family Medicine Practice
St. John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., and Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., have acquired an imaging and physician practice. The two hospitals, under Sisters of Charity Leavenworth Health System, acquired Associates in Family Health Care, a three-8. physician practice based in Lansing, Kan. The practice is not expected to change its name. The hospitals also acquired Rock Creek Imaging, based in Lansing. Rock Creek will become an outpatient department of St. John Hospital.

8. Illinois' Alexian Brothers Plans Acquisition of Cardiovascular Practice
Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Alexian Brothers Health System will acquire Cardiovascular Associates, a 17-physician practice based in Elk Grove Village. The agreement is expected to be finalized sometime this summer, creating Alexian Brothers Heart and Vascular Institute.

9. Michigan's Mercy Health Partners Acquires Cardiology Practice
Muskegon, Mich.-based Mercy Health Partners acquired West Shore Cardiology in Muskegon. The cardiology practice includes eight cardiologists and two physician assistants. It is now part of Mercy Health, marking the system's first cardiology practice acquisition.

10. Florida's St. Anthony's Health Care Plans to Purchase 50-Physician Group
St. Petersburg, Fla.-based St. Anthony's Health Care entered a deal to acquire Suncoast Medical Clinic, a physician-owned group of nearly 50 physicians also in St. Petersburg. The majority of the current Suncoast physicians will be employed by an associated company of St. Anthony's Health, called SC Physicians. Other physicians will work on a contract basis.
