St. Petersburg, Fla.-based St. Anthony's Health Care has entered a deal to acquire Suncoast Medical Clinic, a physician-owned group of nearly 50 physicians also in St. Petersburg, according to a system news release.
The affiliation creates a closer collaboration, offering patients a seamless transition between various levels of care and services. The majority of the current Suncoast physicians will be employed by an associated company of St. Anthony's Health, called SC Physicians. Other physicians will work on a contract basis.
The providers say the initial transition will be "imperceptible" to patients, since most of Suncoast's physicians are already on the medical staff of the hospital. Suncoast will remain in its current location and expects to move onto the St. Anthony's campus in 2013.
