Kansas City Regional Health Information Exchange to Dissolve

The Kansas City regional health information exchange, eHealthAlign, will dissolve near the end of September, according to a Kansas Health Institute News Service report.

The HIE, which includes approximately 30 hospitals, physicians and other organizations, was originally designed to help Kansas City-area healthcare providers in both Kansas and Missouri connect and share information.

Laura Fitzmaurice, MD, chair of eHealthAlign's board of directors, wrote in a letter that the HIE has to "reassess its purpose" as other state and regional exchanges have been developed, according to the report. Kansas Health Information Exchange and Missouri Health Connection, for instance, are overseeing efforts to build statewide networks.
