Case Study: Health Information Exchanges Saved Humana $29 Per Emergency Department Visit

Humana saved $29 per emergency department visit when the clinicians used the Wisconsin Health Information Exchange for patients seeking emergency care, according to a study published in American Health & Drug Benefits.

The authors suggested the cost savings resulted from the availability of medical history at the point of care and a decrease in redundant diagnostic testing due to the medical history availability.
