Kittitas Valley Healthcare Nurses Seek CEO's Resignation

Ellensburg, Wash.-based Kittitas Valley Healthcare, formerly known as Kittitas Valley Community Hospital, nurses, represented by the Washington State Nurses Association, have been in a labor dispute with KVH for 18 months and are now calling for the resignation of CEO Paul Nurick, according to a Daily Record report.

Eighty-eight of KVH Hospital's 107 nurses signed a petition demanding Mr. Nurick's resignation, according to the report. KVH's board president told the Daily Record the board wouldn't formally act on the petition but would meet in a closed session to discuss it.

The dispute between the nurses and hospital management stems from KVH's decision to implement a final offer for a labor contract without the union's agreement because the two parties are at an impasse. KVH issued the final offer in January, which union members have not accepted.

The nurses' three-year contract expired Dec. 31 and contract negotiations have failed because WSNA claims KVH is tying nursing care to operating margins, not patient care needs, the Daily Record reported. Mr. Nurick has previously said labor negotiations at KVH need to take the economic climate into account, according to the report.
