Amazon and Sprint have selected Seat Pleasant, Md., as their new city where the companies will launch a $200 million nationwide disease surveillance and chronic disease management telehealth program, according to a March 21 news release.
The telehealth program will be provided to all seniors and individuals at greatest risk for COVID-19 in Seat Pleasant, which is located on the Maryland border of Washington, D.C. The city's senior population accounts for 20 percent of its total populations.
The program will use $195 million to provide tablets, medical devices and software for individuals in Seat Pleasant who participate. Participants will receive an internet-enabled monitoring device and temperature screening tool that can monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and also track and monitor existing chronic diseases.
Amazon and Sprint partnered with healthcare analytics company EagleForce and Freedman's Health, a healthcare consulting firm, on the initiative.
