Bloomington-based Indiana University received a $4 million grant from the National Institute on Aging to continue its research on the telehealth app Brain CareNotes, according to Oct. 11 reporting in Inside Indiana Business.
The study will focus on the effect of telehealth intervention on Alzheimer's and dementia. Brain CareNotes works to help informal caregivers manage symptoms of patients' Alzheimer's and dementia. IU's first study found the app improved behavioral symptoms in patients and reduced caregiver burden.
Researchers at Indiana University's School of Public Health and School of Medicine will work on the study for five years.
"The I-CARE 2 trial will be nearly three times the size and a much broader study than the first one," Richard Holden, MD, co-principal investigator on the study, said. "This will be the definitive trial to tell us whether the app improves informal caregiver and patient health outcomes."
