Telemedicine provider Doctor On Demand is teaming up with Change Healthcare to leverage its Intelligent Healthcare Network and enable physicians to order lab work based on their patients' locations.
When a physician sees a patient on Doctor On Demand's video platform and determines lab work is needed, the physician can order the tests and refer the patient to nearby labs of the patient's choosing for testing. When testing is complete, the clinician can use the Doctor On Demand application to send the results directly to the patient.
This new Orders and Results service connects laboratory and ancillary services to Doctor On Demand providers as a way to streamline workflows and reduce manual work.
"Is it really telemedicine if you're not providing the service through the application?" said Steve Aylward, senior vice president of partner enablement at Change Healthcare. "In the past, when a consumer needed a lab test, they had to go offline and wait to be told where to go. Now, this entire process can be managed within the Doctor On Demand application, with lab orders electronically routed to testing centers based on a patient's geographic location — thanks to the breadth and advanced technology of the Change Healthcare Intelligent Healthcare Network."
