12 hospitals, health systems launching telehealth services

Here are 12 hospitals and health systems that implemented telehealth technology and services in September:

1. Lafayette (La.) General Health released its new mobile telehealth app Sept. 4.

2. University of Pittsburgh researchers developed a blood pressure home-monitoring program to more quickly detect hypertension levels of postpartum women.

3. Covenant Health Plainview in Texas implemented a two-way audio and video device that allows clinicians to continually monitor patients who require more constant watch.

4. Cleveland Clinic launched its first telehealth-equipped neurology step down unit to support constant monitoring of epilepsy and stroke patients' brain activity.

5. York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health deployed its new digital urgent care clinic for patients to access entirely online.

6. Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, N.M., recently acquired telemedicine neurology equipment to diagnose a stroke more quickly in emergency department patients.

7. UW Medicine will establish a telehealth consultation center for mental health and substance abuse patients as part of the Seattle-based health system's $225 million UW Medicine Behavioral Health Teaching Facility.

8. Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock will extend its telemedicine services to provide critical care neonatal services to nonprofit, community hospital Littleton (N.H.) Regional Healthcare patients.

9. University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City tapped Charlottesville, Va.-based Locus Health to provide patients and their families with software to monitor vital health information from home.

10. Jerseyville, Ill.-based Jersey Community Hospital launched a telemedicine hospitalist program to help address onsite staffing challenges.

11. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville, part of Arlington-based Texas Health Resources, now offers telehealth-based 24/7 care for sexual assault victims.

12. Stillwater-based Oklahoma State University will begin offering opioid addiction treatment services through telemedicine.
