The Reading (Pa.) Hospital and Medical Center is planning a new $189 million surgical center that will consolidate the hospital's surgical services, according to a Reading Eagle report.
The center will include 24 surgical suites and is expected to be completed in fall 2014. Currently, the hospital has 28 operating rooms — including some that were built more than 50 years ago — divided across five buildings.
The hospital expects the new 250,000-square-foot facility will improve efficiency and patient care and help recruit top physicians.
