The National Cancer Institute has proposed a budget of more than $11 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.
The funding will allow the institute to strengthen the cancer industry's workforce, modernize clinical trials and support cancer detection and prevention across the country. The budget also includes $50 million for the Childhood Cancer Data Initiative, according to the proposal published Sept. 4.
The 2026 proposal is more than $2 billion more than the 2025 proposal.
Here is how the NCI proposal breaks down the budget increase:
- $479 million to cancer biology research
- $338 million to cancer prevention research
- $457 million to cancer detection and diagnosis research
- $534 million to cancer treatment research
- $175 million to public health and cancer control research
- $196 million to training and infrastructure
