Somnia Anesthesia Leaders Focus on Anesthesia Quality Reporting At Annual Retreat

Somnia Anesthesia hosted its annual leadership retreat earlier this month in New Rochelle, N.Y., and attendees at the event heard Richard P. Dutton, MD, MBA, executive director of the Anesthesia Quality Institute, discuss the importance of the honest reporting of sentinel and adverse events for anesthesia quality improvement efforts.

At the event, Dr. Dutton urged the approximately 50 leaders to cultivate a culture where clinicians "aren't afraid to talk about what went wrong."

The AQI was established in 2009 by the American Society of Anesthesiologists as part of its quality improvement mission. The AQI oversees the National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry that collects de-identified patient data from 220 participating anesthesiology practices. Somnia was the first anesthesia-only practice management organization to join this effort, which as of today has collected data on more than 7,000,000 cases.
