Teal Health, a women's health platform initially focusing on cervical cancer, raised $8.8 million in a seed financing round that saw participation from Serena Ventures, the venture capital fund of tennis star Serena Williams.
Teal Health offers at-home cervical cancer screening. The company plans to use the seed financing to expedite product development, clinical testing and FDA approval, according to a Jan. 31 Teal Health news release.
In addition to the tennis star's fund, the company received investment from Emerson Collective, Metrodora Ventures and Felicis Ventures.
"For far too long, women have been disenfranchised by their current healthcare experiences, with women of underrepresented communities feeling an increased strain on their access and options surrounding healthcare," Ms. Williams said. "We're excited to partner with Teal to increase equity and access to this life-saving screening by removing the barriers such as awareness, time, and fear; while also empowering women to reconnect and take control of their health."
