Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare plans to roll out a generative AI tool across its emergency departments, according to a technology vendor involved in the project.
In 2023, the health system started piloting a platform that uses ambient clinical documentation from Augmedix and Google's generative AI to draft EHR notes for ED visits. About 80 physicians at four hospitals tried out the program, with "generally pretty positive" results, an HCA executive said in March.
HCA intends to scale Augmedix's Go ED technology at about 184 EDs, likely in the fall, Augmedix CEO Manny Krakaris said in a May 13 earnings call.
Mr. Krakaris said Augmedix built the technology on over 10 million patient encounters at health systems such as HCA and Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health.
"We have been and continue to work side by side with our strategic partner HCA Healthcare to calibrate and optimize our AI products," he said in the call.
Mr. Krakaris stated that the timeline for expansion depends on getting the "right change management programs in place" at each HCA hospital as well as the health system's transition to Meditech's Expanse EHR. An HCA spokesperson told Becker's the health system plans to expand the use of the technology to more hospitals but that the rollout is "not directly linked to Meditech Expanse."
