Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger has been selected as one of the finalists for the Hearst Health Prize, a competition that recognizes excellence in data science in healthcare.
The competition, hosted by the UCLA Center for SMART Health and Hearst Health, will award up to $100,000 to organizations and companies that are using data science to advance healthcare, according to a Oct. 27 press release.
Geisinger was selected among the top three finalists for its ConnectedCare365 predictive model that helps support individuals with chronic diseases by connecting them with management resources to prevent unnecessary hospital and emergency room visits.
"We are honored to be among the 2022 Hearst Health Prize finalists," said David Vawdrey, PhD, chief data and informatics officer at Geisinger. "We believe that the effective application of data science can improve the health of populations, reduce healthcare costs, and help eliminate inequality and injustice in our healthcare system."
Winners of the competition will be announced Nov. 1. The first place winner will receive $100,000, with the two runner-ups receiving $25,000.
