The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded a grant to VisualDx, a clinical decision support company using artificial intelligence to help diagnose tropical diseases.
Through the initiative, VisualDx will develop country-specific decision support tools for Nigeria and India to educate providers about presentation and management of tropical diseases. This is the second Gates Foundation grant awarded to the company, according to a Jan. 17 VisualDx news release.
The grant comes after VisualDx partnered with HHS and the Vermont Department of Health on separate projects.
"The public health needs of many rural and underserved areas often go unmet from provider and doctor shortages, and limited access to diagnostics, assistive technology, education, and training," Wendemagegn Enbiale, MD, PhD, global health information officer at VisualDx, said. "Advances in modern medicine and technology have made it possible to deliver equitable, high-quality information for all patients, regardless of where they live or seek medical attention. With this partnership, we are developing decision support tools to assist primary healthcare providers working in low-resource settings."
