Monroe, Mich.-based Mercy Memorial Hospital System is planning employee layoffs and reduced employee hours as it tries to balance the budget, according to a Monroe News report.
The system will lay off 20 workers by July and cut the hours of 70 other employees, according to the report. The employees affected by layoffs will mostly be non-clinical staff.
The workforce changes, along with other cost-cutting measures, are expected to save the system about $13 million, according to the report. Mercy Memorial Hospital System has been affected by decreases in Medicare reimbursement, lower patient volume and an increase in charity care.
