Public hearing attendees showed up in force to support the proposed affiliation of Weymouth, Mass.-based South Shore Hospital and Boston-based non-profit chain Partners HealthCare, according to a report by the Patriot Ledger.
Affiliation talks between the two healthcare organizations began last April, as South Shore leadership concluded they would be better positioned for health reform by partnering with a larger system, according to the report.
Union representatives questioned whether merger-related costs would hurt workers' wages and benefits, and the local councilor wanted assurance regarding possible layoffs before he backed the partnership.
