Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y., has reached an agreement to purchase New York Westchester Square Medical Center in the Bronx, according to a Bronx Times report.
Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. However, Montefiore said it would provide ambulatory surgery and primary care services as well as a full-service emergency department, according to the report.
WSMC has been struggling financially under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and this takeover could mean mass layoffs. According to the report, WSMC filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Department of Labor, which is required under state law when mass layoffs occur.
