Proposed merger plans between Northeast Health System in Beverly, Mass., and Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., would not include the loss of acute-care status for Gloucester, Mass.-based and NHS affiliate Addison Gilbert Hospital, according to a Gloucester Times report.
Under the proposed deal, Addison Gilbert would be required to remain open as an acute-care facility for at least three years.
The report said an acute-care hospital in Massachusetts must offer eight mandatory services within an emergency department to be licensed as "acute-care," and NHS CEO Ken Hanover said the affiliation has committed to keep those eight essential services.
