The board of Elkhart (Ind.) General Hospital has approved an affiliation with Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind., according to an Elkhart news release.
Memorial's board will vote on the proposed affiliation today. If it passes, the organizations will sign the final binding agreement and form a new parent organization. The board for the new system will be comprised equally of Elkhart and Memorial representatives.
Elkhart Board Chairman Don Krabill will chair the new board of directors for the merged organization, and Phil Newbold, current CEO of Memorial, will serve as CEO of the new system.
Each hospital will retain its own board of directors and continue to develop their own strategies to serve their respective communities, according to the news release.
