Georgia's Hutcheson Medical Center Moves Closer to Partnership With Erlanger

Three of four oversight boards at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.-based Hutcheson Medical Center voted to partner with Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tenn., according to a Times Free Press report.

The votes for Erlanger follow a pitch to Hutcheson by a for-profit hospital.

Trustees of the Hospital Authority of Walker, Dade and Catoosa Counties in Georgia must agree for the contract to be accepted. One of the barriers to the counties' agreement is Walker's indecision on whether to guarantee $10 million of loans from Erlanger if the hospital cannot repay, a stipulation to which Catoosa has already agreed. Dade is not required to post collateral.

Concessions by Hutcheson's lender Regions Bank are only valid if the contract is accepted by April 15.
