The pending merger between Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health and Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C., is all but official now, as the Federal Trade Commission is expected to finalize the deal.
The boards of Cone Health and Alamance Regional initially approved a merger in December 2011, but the FTC wanted to investigate the acquisition to ensure it met antitrust guidelines.
Cone Health CEO Tim Rice said in a news release the FTC will put the merger to a final decision "soon" and that both organizations "are very pleased to receive this news from the FTC staff…to enhance the healthcare options for the people of Alamance County."
