Barnabas Health to Acquire Jersey City Medical Center

Barnabas Health, based in West Orange, N.J., and Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center have signed a definitive agreement in which JCMC would become part of the Barnabas system.

JCMC, a 316-bed safety-net hospital and part of Jersey City-based LibertyHealth, has had working relationships with Barnabas for the past several years.

Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. The deal, expected to close this fall, still requires approval from state and federal authorities. Currently, Barnabas has six general acute-care hospitals and two children's hospitals.
