The number of private equity transactions in the U.S. healthcare industry more than doubled between 2009 and 2012, according to "US healthcare M&A insights," by PwC's Deals practice.
The data for the section of the report regarding private equity deals was compiled from Dealogic data. Dealogic is a platform used by investment banks worldwide to help optimize their performance and improve competitiveness.
There were 33 private equity deals in the healthcare sector in 2009, with only four deals having an announced value of $50 million or more. In 2012, there were 84 private equity deals, and 12 of them had an announced value of $50 million or more, according to the report.
