The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transaction news took place within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

1. CharterCare Health in Rhode Island Forms Joint Venture With California For-Profit
Providence, R.I.-based CharterCare Health Partners, the parent organization of two Rhode Island hospitals, signed a letter of intent to merge with Santa Ana, Calif.-based Prospect Medical Holdings.

2. Community Memorial Healthcenter Considers 8 Affiliation Partners
Community Memorial Healthcenter's board affiliation steering committee received interest from eight potential health system partners, and the committee narrowed the review further to "several" organizations.

3. Court Halts North Kansas City Hospital Sale During Pending Lawsuit
A Missouri judge placed an injunction on the proposed sale of North Kansas City Hospital until a lawsuit is resolved determining whether the hospital's city owners have the authority to sell it.

4. Loyola University Health Enters Clinical Agreement With Porter Health System
Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Health System began a clinical affiliation with Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, Ind., to expand specialty care to areas including Porter Cancer Care Center and Neuroscience Center.

5. New London Hospital Plans Partnership With Dartmouth-Hitchcock
A proposed affiliation between Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock and New London (N.H.) Hospital could go before the state's attorney general this week.

6. 3 Washington State Community Hospitals Join to Find Partner
Three hospitals in Washington state — Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington, Island Hospital in Anacortes and Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon — met to approve a joint request for proposals for affiliation.

7. After State-Mandated Review, Sarasota Memorial to Stay as Public Non-Profit
The public hospital board of Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital voted to keep the organization as a public, non-profit, taxpayer-funded entity.
