Illinois' Provena Health, Resurrection Health Care Sign Merger Agreement

Mokena-Ill.-based Provena Health and Chicago-based Resurrection Health Care have signed a deal to merge, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The merger, which was explored in February, will create the largest Catholic-owned healthcare system in Illinois and nearly $3 billion in operating revenue, the report said.

Both healthcare entities have submitted an application to Illinois health planning officials and now await approval, which could come as early as October.

Resurrection and Provena each operate six hospitals in Chicago and the Chicago suburbs.
