Chicago's Resurrection Health Care and Provena Health to Explore Merger

Chicago-based Resurrection Health Care, which operates six hospitals, has signed a letter of intent to explore a merger arrangement with Mokena, Ill.-based Provena Health, which owns six hospitals, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The deal could create the largest Catholic-owned healthcare system in the state, according to the report. Both hospitals currently provide inpatient and outpatient services from nearly 100 locations in Illinois and Indiana. The combined system would have nearly $3 billion in operating revenue.

The potential partnership may attract Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., which has confirmed it will consider a partnership with other Catholic health systems. Loyola executives were not available for comment, according to the report.
