Michigan's Wayne State University Physician Group and Medical Network One to Form ACO

Detroit's Wayne State University Physician Group and Rochester, Mich.-based Medical Network One have formed a new contractual arrangement, effective March 1, as a precursor to forming an ACO, according to a news release.

WSUPG and Medical Network One plan to form an "organized system of care" and eventually a "virtual" ACO, in which the group will not be affiliated with a specific hospital or health system, but will limit physicians to belonging to only one ACO.

The new arrangement between WSUPG and Medical Network One was motivated partly by physicians' desire to create an OSC, one of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan initiatives.

WSUPG has 2,000 members who conduct research and teach students in addition to providing medical care. Medical Network One has 750 members who offer comprehensive health management support programs and interventions.
