Detroit Medical Center Launches PHO

Detroit Medical Center has launched a joint-venture physician-hospital organization, which includes more than 500 physicians, according to a Crain's Detroit Business report.

The physicians, including DMC's 75 employed physicians, paid $250 to join the organization, which has applied to participate in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's physician group incentive program.

The PHO is expected to grow to more than 1,000 physicians in the next few months, once Wayne State University Physician Group and other private physicians join.

The PHO hopes to eventually become an accountable care organization, according to the report.
