Pittsburgh-based health insurer Highmark and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine have announced a five-year partnership to help abate the physician shortage in rural Pennsylvania.
Highmark will commit $500,000 over the next five years as a scholarship program to support LECOM students in their four years of medical school. Five medical students will receive a $20,000 every year and will be required to practice medicine at a Highmark-approved site in a designated area of need.
