Fort Meyers, Fla.-based Lee Memorial Health System will launch a residency program in 2014 with the Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee, Fla., according to a News-Press report.
The residency program aims to increase the number of family physicians in the area to offset the anticipated increase in demand for healthcare in 2014 when roughly 30 million Americans gain insurance under healthcare reform.
According to the report, more than 50 percent of graduates practice medicine in the same area as their residency.
