Wyoming Medical Center in Casper is discussing further need to develop a statewide accountable care organization as hospitals in Colorado, Utah, South Dakota and Montana compete for the 207-bed hospital's market, according to a Billings Gazette report.
As out-of-state hospitals promote themselves further into Wyoming, moving beyond the regions close to the state borders, hospital leaders say a statewide ACO may help resist the draw from out-of-state healthcare providers.
Vicki Diamond, CEO of WMC said these out-of-state hospitals also intend to recruit specialists that will draw Wyoming patients elsewhere, according to the report.
The ACO model is under consideration by both WMC and the Cheyenne (Wyo.) Regional Medical Center.
