Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y., announced it will be laying off approximately 150 behavioral health employees just one month after it laid off 250 other employees, according to a Journal News report.
Westchester Medical Center's Behavioral Health Center will be taken over by an outside healthcare delivery company based in Pennsylvania. The contract is the hospital's latest effort to fill an estimated $61 million budget shortfall. Officials said the partnership is expected to save the hospital approximately $4 million annually.
Recreation therapists, mental health aides and social workers are among those affected by the second round of layoffs. In December, hospital administrators laid off 132 nurses, 105 Civil Service Employee Association workers and 13 managers.
