Approximately 3,000 healthcare workers, represented by SEIU United Healthcare Workers West, have started contract negotiations with employer Daughters of Charity Health System, which is based in Los Altos Hills, Calif.
As part of contract negotiations, SEIU-UHW members are asking Daughters of Charity to join them in efforts to recruit and train healthcare workers; fight chronic illness statewide; and focus on new ways to improve population health.
Specifically, SEIU-UHW members told Daughters of Charity leaders that they intend to build a team of 10,000 healthcare providers to launch a statewide education program focused on wellness and preventive care. The team will also help prepare for the increasing healthcare demands of an aging population and help create a fund to train new healthcare workers.
The healthcare workers' contract expires April 30.
