UC Davis Health System Partners With State to Operate Cancer Registry

Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health System announced it is partnering with the California Department of Public Health to run the California Cancer Registry.

The California Cancer Registry is a statewide cancer surveillance system that includes data on more than four million cancer cases diagnosed since 1988, according to the release. UC Davis Health System's Institute for Population Health Improvement and the California Department of Public Health will take over operation of the registry from the Public Health Institute, which has run the database since 1986.

IPHI will collect, analyze, interpret and disseminate information on California's cancer incidence and mortality. IPHI and UC Davis Health System will monitor specific cancers over time and work with researchers on projects related to the etiology, treatment, risk factors and prevention of specific cancers, according to the release.

In addition, UC Davis will improve the registry's information management technologies to collect accurate data quickly and expand access to users.
